When speaking in a foreign language, it’s common to need a moment to gather your thoughts. In Macedonian, there are several phrases that can help you pause and think without losing the flow of the conversation. These phrases can make you sound more natural and fluent as you interact with others. Here are some of the most common ones:
Па…
Па… – “Well…”: This word is a go-to when you’re about to say something, but need a second to think. It’s used much like “well” in English.
Example: Па… не знам. (Well… I don’t know.)

Значи…
Значи… – “So…”: Used when starting to explain something or introduce a thought, although some language purists avoid it. It’s natural in spoken language and helps you transition into an explanation.

Чекај да размислам…
Чекај да размислам… – “Let me think…”: When you need a brief pause to think about your answer, this is the perfect phrase. It signals to your conversation partner that you’re considering your response.
Example: Чекај да размислам… Како да ти објаснам? (Let me think… How do I explain this to you?)

Всушност…
Всушност… – “Actually…”: Used when you’re about to clarify something or share a new idea. It’s a great way to transition into a more thought-out response.
